The Yogi as a Cultural Super Hero

As children, many of us grew up watching and imitating comic book superheroes. We were in awe of their ability to fly, bend metal with their bare hands, and take the form of nature and the elements all in a heroic effort to restore peace and harmony in the universe.
Superheroes exist today in the form of artists, musicians, civil rights leaders, and yogis. The modern day superhero questions long-standing beliefs through fearless self-exploration and inspires others to do the same. Put on your yogic cape and activate your soul and innate powers with a Jivamukti yoga practice that will remind you that we are the new generation of superheroes. Count on some flying, inverting and a dash of transformation.

Class Level: Intermediate
Class Structure: Some lecture, mostly asana.

From a Solid to a Liquid

In this special class you will be ushered through the 3 states of consciousness.
We'll begin with a meditation in the waking state (jagrat), then slowly be guided into the deeper realms of the subconscious (swapna & sushupti), ultimately residing in what has been referred to as one of the deepest meditations of all, Yoga Nidra - often defined as conscious awareness of the deep sleep state. This practice can help with something as imperative as relaxation to accessing and purifying your samskaras that drive our karmas (actions). Through this practice we have the opportunity to realize our true Self by altering our defined solid state to one that is flowing liquid grace of calm and clarity.

Class Level: All Levels
Class Structure: Guided Meditation and Yoga Nidra
Suggested Props: Blanket, eye pillow, bolster

About Giselle Mari

Giselle Mari is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti teacher and E-RYT500 whose introduction to yoga in the early 90’s was a natural progression from her gymnastics/dance background, her passion for music and being raised by a bohemian flamenco dancer. Being a bit of a wild child, she was later drawn to the Jivamukti Yoga method. Soon thereafter she began her extensive study with her gurus Sharon Gannon and David Life who she joyfully assisted throughout the western U.S. for almost 5 years.

Described as “spunky” by her teacher Sharon Gannon, Giselle is known for her sustainable & insightful classes that infuse funky eclectic music, chanting, skillful hands on assists, a down to earth approach to yoga and an all around good time for your soul.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Giselle also teaches at studios, festivals and conferences around the globe. She's appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal and Yoga International and has been featured in many of their articles. She is an ambassador for Gaiam, a columnist for Origin magazine, serves on the advisory board for The Art of Yoga Project, has had the honor to serve as a mentor on the Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training Faculty and is a teacher on YogaGlo.
